Afternoon Tea at the Old Biscuit Factory SE16

The London Festival of Architecture invites you to spend time at the old Peek Frean biscuit site which was the focus for a community for over a hundred years and employed generations of families living in Bermondsey. When the factory closed in 1989 it was a great loss to the area and a blow to the local community. Today it is a mixed site with many buildings converted to suit creative style businesses. Come to visit the old biscuit factory, between 11 and 6, for Afternoon Tea which is a tea-related ritual, introduced in Britain in the early 1840s. It evolved as a mini meal to stem the hunger and anticipation of an evening meal at 8pm. Afternoon Tea is a meal composed of sandwiches (usually cut delicately into 'fingers'), scones with clotted cream and jam and cakes. You will also be invited to an open studio exhibition as part of your visit. We look forward to welcoming you!
