Carpenters’ Hall Tour

Tour of the ceremonial rooms of Carpenters’ Hall covering the history of the building and the Company, its current role and charitable work. The Carpenters’ Company has been based on London Wall since its first Hall was built there in 1429. Since that time, there have been three Halls; the third Hall, which still stands today, was built following an air raid in 1941 when the second Hall was completely burnt out. The current Hall was rebuilt in the 1950s within the external walls of the old Hall, which had survived and were deemed to be of architectural interest. Designed by Austen Hall, the architecture of new Hall is particularly appropriate for the Guild of Carpenters: at least 18 different kinds of wood were used throughout the building, which was intended to act as a showcase for the craft of carpentry.
