In response to a four-month residency with Bow Arts at RAW Labs, contemporary artist Sara Heywood presents The Bird Hide: a temporary site-specific installation inspired by the identity of the Royal Albert Docks, its local wildlife, and close proximity to London City Airport.
The Bird Hide is inspired by the planes that fly in and out of the area and their battle for the airways with local birds that flock to the docks for food and shelter. Signs around the docks deter us from feeding our feathered friends due to potential hazards to aircraft safety, highlighting the struggle between man and nature living side by side in this environment.
This playful reinterpretation of a traditional bird viewing hide is a place to contemplate the unique and ever changing local landscape.
The Bird Hide will be open weekends (10am – 4pm) and most weekdays.
If The Bird Hide is locked please visit RAW Labs (across the bridge) for more information.
The Bird Hide is a partnership project produced by Bow Arts with Notting Hill Genesis.
