The Pavilion

To celebrate the opening of Westfield London’s recent £600m expansion, Westfield has commissioned the creation of The Pavilion an event performance structure, which will live in the new outdoor public space, Westfield Square. The Pavilion has been designed to create a community hub that will house a programme of Music, Arts and Culture hosted by Westfield throughout the summer.

The inspiration for The Pavilion stems back 110 years ago, when over eight million people visited Shepherds Bush & White City in 1908 to attend the Franco-British Exhibition, which was a large public fair. The Pavilion pays homage to the Flip-Flap structure that was present at the exhibition and is based on the distortion of a perfect 7 x 7 x 7 cube. Architects IF_DO created the modern structure, which has a tall white roof that reaches into the air and moves across the sky, forming ever changing shadows across the ground surrounding it.
