LFA 2024 Area Focus:

Sutton High Street

Sutton is going through a radical transformation. Sutton Town Centre is being reimagined with the local community by diversifying the offer available to residents and visitors. The high street is a place for meeting and exchange, with once vacant buildings being brought back to life and creative communities and businesses taking root.

From retrofit to urban greening, sustainability is at the heart of the future of the town centre. Sutton Town Centre is once again becoming a cultural hub and exciting neighbourhood, with new co-working and wellbeing spaces, an independent cinema, new college, library, housing and a mix of hospitality and retail.

This year’s theme of ‘Reimagine’ could not resonate more with the council’s ambition to continue creating striking, welcoming, and unique spaces which are fit for existing communities and future generations. The programme of events will showcase how Sutton champions radical imagination and a regenerative approach. Activity will highlight the power of collaborative thinking and innovative design, and welcome people from the borough and across London to see first-hand how the town centre is being revitalised.

“As the Leader of Sutton Council, I am excited to announce our decision to become the Area Focus for the London Festival of Architecture in 2024.

“Sutton is undergoing a radical transformation, levering in millions to regenerate our main town centre and co-creating sustainable, modern spaces with our local community. This aligns perfectly with LFA’s theme of reimagining cities, reflecting our commitment to a collaborative, fair and innovative future for generations to come.

“Our huge pride in programmes such as the London Cancer Hub, which is expected to generate 13,000 jobs locally, fuels our enthusiasm to showcase Sutton’s unique, welcoming spaces during this festival. We invite London to see first-hand our regeneration approach in Sutton Town Centre, which embraces diversity and imagination.”

Councillor Ruth Dombey, Leader of the Council, Sutton Council
