The London Festival of Architecture has announced that a digital version of the world’s largest annual architecture festival will take place online in June. In an exciting new departure for the festival, LFA Digital 2020 will take place ahead of the broader core LFA public events programme, which will be taking place later in the year. The call for entries for LFA Digital 2020 is now open, with organisations and individuals invited to respond with digital content that addresses this year’s LFA theme of ‘power’.
Every year the London Festival of Architecture’s programme of events is conceived and delivered by more than 300 independent organisations and individuals. Collectively through events, installations, tours, talks and more, they help to deliver a festival that has continued to grow, adapt and evolve since its inception in 2004. Global events – and a huge appetite among the festival’s friends and partners – have led to the creation of LFA Digital 2020, ahead of a different physical programme later in the year. In the meantime the festival’s year-round work – celebrating London and supporting the city’s architecture and design sector through competitions and public realm installations – continues.
Since the LFA organisers announced a delay to the physical programme of events this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, many event organisers have proposed new and innovative ways for versions of their events to take place online. LFA Digital 2020 will therefore be a new programme of curated digital and online events throughout the month of June.
London Festival of Architecture Director Tamsie Thomson said:
“Since announcing a delay to our core public events programme, we’ve been really bowled over by the power of our community to suggest new and innovative events to engage the public in architecture through digital technology. LFA Digital 2020, taking place in June, will still be based on the LFA’s unique open call for events. This means that anyone with a creative idea and a passion for architecture can be part of the conversation about architecture and our city. This is what makes our programme so diverse.
“What’s really exciting is that this new online programme in June opens up many new opportunities for international collaborations and new audiences – not just in London but around the world. Never has the LFA’s mission of democratising the discussion around architecture been more important”
The LFA’s online submission for digital events is now open at www.londonfestivalofarchitecture.org with new and existing LFA partners encouraged to submit proposals for digital events in June through the festival’s usual submission process. The LFA Curation Panel will review these submissions and approve them within 48 hours. Organisers are also still able to submit and edit their events for part of the LFA’s physical programme later in the year.
The full LFA Digital 2020 programme will be announced on Monday 25 May.
