At Global Generation our gardens are a common space. A space within the community where people can feel a sense of place and collectivity. At the core of our work we see community co-build projects as an act that develops and fosters a sense of connection to the land and environment around us, but importantly to each other.
Modern construction processes have taken us away from an understanding of where our materials come from, how they are sourced, where they are processed and how they are made. Our event will reconnect people with this process through a day of community making at The Story Garden, our meanwhile site behind The British Library.
Throughout the event there will be three traditional building activities for people to get involved in. Brick making, Shingle Making and Cob Building. Through these activities we will aim to share our knowledge of sustainable and natural building processes and showcase the benefits and opportunities of community co-build projects. These materials will then go towards the construction of our first permanent community garden within the Kings Cross development.
