Due to its pre-eminent and diverse architecture the London skyline is one of the most recognisable in the world and it is celebrated as an iconic part of the capital’s culture. Over the next decade London’s skyline will be drastically transformed with the Square Mile set to be home to 13 new skyscrapers.
Our walk will explore how the skyline in and around the Eastern Cluster has informed the City of London’s identity as the historic and financial heart of the capital. With an estimated 100,000 extra workers arriving in The City in the next 30 years these new developments will provide the necessary workspace and public realm. We will concentrate on existing iconic architecture in The City like the Leadenhall Building as well as developments that are currently under construction including 100 Bishopsgate and 22 Bishopsgate. We will also include sites like Wilkinson Eyre's 50-storey tower at 6-8 Bishopsgate which is currently being prepared and the tallest proposed building in the Square Mile 1 Undershaft by Eric Parry Architects where the ground is still to be broken.
