Discover more about the first UK publication dedicated to Japanese architect Kazuo Shinohara. Evening event with readings, Q&A and refreshments.

Michaela Nettell presents her newly-published artist’s book bringing together responses to Shinohara’s 1961 Umbrella House by international practitioners working across fine art, filmmaking, creative writing, architecture and Japanese calligraphy.

Central to the project is a conversation around home and #Belonging between former inhabitant of Umbrella House Kyoko Hanawa (Emi Kawai) and London-based writer/curator Yuki Sumner, offering a unique account of a life lived in one of Shinohara’s houses – and beyond.

OEB architects is located in studio 54 of Regents Studios, a commercial slab block off Andrews Road opposite the canal. The space is on the fifth floor. There is step free access via a lift at the centre of the building, via drop kerbs at ground level. Some access on the on site vehicle route at ground floor is required. Gendered toilets are available on the same level. There is one parking space available in the downstairs yard so please contact us in advance if this is required for your access needs. Assistance dogs welcome.
