Lumina is an interactive experience that explores the physical self-awareness that we human beings have within the space that we occupy. It aims to generate a sense of presence by exploring the personal and peripersonal space of the user.
Lumina is an instrument that in the presence of a person draws a perimeter of light around them in representation of the boundary that our own body draws in the physical environment. This boundary can be constantly reshaped depending on the movement of the user. The intensity of the light is modified when the user extends their hands towards and retracts away from their maximum scope. Meanwhile, the colour changes depending on the position and height of the hands relative to the body within the space.
The aim of Lumina is to explore the mental and physical boundaries that the human body creates in physical reality. The instrument thereby seeks to explore how these boundaries shape our individual behaviour and additionally aims to immerse the user in short-term sensory deprivation, thus intensifying the experience and introducing a state of relaxation and mindfulness.
