The Master Carvers' Association present an exciting season of exhibitions celebrating Britain’s foremost furniture designer and maker Thomas Chippendale.
Chippendale was baptised on 5 June 1718, and this year his tercentenary is being widely celebrated around the country. Since establishing his famous London workshop in the 1750s, his exceptional work continues to shape the identity of craft and interior design in the capital and beyond.
As the inheritors of Britain’s carving heritage, The Master Carvers’ Association - professional carvers elected to membership by peer review - are paying their own tribute by exhibiting works of today for today's patrons.
A suite of music stands has been individually designed, carved and made by members for exhibition and recital performances. Like Chippendale’s furniture, these music stands are both functional and sculptural objects. As with all endeavours, “We learn from the past, create for the future.”
