Songstreets

01 June - 30 June

SONGSTREETS offers an interactive immersive audio walk through the streets and culture of Brixton. Led by the knowledge of Black Brixtonites, we journey into the heart and fire of what empowers this unique place: from the Windrush, through the Rising, to the Future.

Created in response to Indigenous Australian musician Jessie Lloyd’s residency in Brixton - exploring commonalities of experience between Indigenous Australians & Black Britons - Brixton-based sound artist Thor McIntyre-Burnie and public arts company Aswarm crafted this interactive journey. Commissioned by Border Crossings’ ORIGINS Festival, together with Brixton-born artist Tony Cealy, who narrates the journey, and a host of brilliant local voices, SONGSTREETS invites you to discover the people, sites and songs that spark pathways into the hidden stories & cultural memories embedded in our streets.

Supported by Arts Council England & the UK/Australia Season.

Accessed via the Aswarm XR mobile phone app designed for headphones ( iOS & Android).
