Soundscape by Xana | Part of Gateway at GDIF

As you travel high above London, listen in to a soundscape focusing on the colonial history of the Docklands, with archive samples and voices of the Caribbean diaspora speaking on movement and belonging. This sound installation has been created by poet, composer and sound designer Xana.

This soundscape is part of Gateway, a series of performances and installations marking the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush at Tilbury Dock in June 1948 exploring the contemporary resonance of this historic occasion against the background of a changing city. With performances straddling Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, linked by an inspiring journey aboard the Emirates Air Line, Gateway reflects on the continuing story of London’s diversity and the movement of people across borders.

You can board the Emirates Air Line from either the North Greenwich or Royal Docks sides of the river.

Gateway is supported by Royal Docks, Greenwich Peninsula and Emirates Air Line
