Urban Commons: How to Change Grey to Green

03 June 2023

11:00 -16:00

Building on the success of last year’s popular workshop session, participants will learn how to create green connections between people and nature. We all have a need for physical and social interactions with the natural world. How can we transform our urban environments so even the smallest spaces become havens for wildlife and biodiversity?

Using a toolkit with 12 scalable elements created for the award-winning Low Line Commons vision, we’ll investigate how this approach can be applied anywhere. This year we are collaborating with Blue Bermondsey BID, to explore public realm improvements in South Bermondsey. We will start at 11:00am with a talk and introduction to the concept, followed by a tour of adjacent streets, undertaking a guided site analysis.

We’ll provide lunch and then work together in groups to design and create a green neighbourhood using models and the toolkit elements. The workshop will finish at 4:00pm after a discussion and presentation.
