Melting city walking tour

10 June 2022

16:00 -17:30

MELTING CITY - debating how the City of London and businesses in the Square Mile are acting on retrofit* and climate emergency

A resident-led walking tour that invites participants to discuss:
• how to deal with embodied carbon and poorly insulated housing
• who decides - residents or businesses on what is built and what is demolished?

The route:
• Grade II listed Golden Lane Estate, in need of insulation.
• Barbican Estate, described by Barnabas Calder as '....the architecture of fossil fuels at its glorious best.....'**
• The Museum of London and Bastion House - fifty-year old buildings due to be demolished and at the centre of a major dispute about embodied carbon
• Guildhall to the site of the 'Tulip' viewing tower - refused planning permission by Secretary of State Michael Gove on grounds of sustainability

This walk, led by Paul Lincoln, Golden Lane resident and City of London guide, is a work in progress which will be developed over the next few months building on contributions made during the event.
