Ready, set, bake!

NEWS |

The Architecture Bake Off is only a week away and we cannot wait!

We’ve had over sixty people sign up this year, based across the UK and internationally, ready to compete to be the 2021 champion.

To provide some inspiration for our bakers, Smeg’s National Training and Sales Support Manager, Clare Edwards, has created a wonderful video for us exploring some unique techniques and ingredients to make that perfect bake – no soggy bottoms here! Or should that be foundations…!

We look forward to sharing the buildings with you next week. In the meantime, bakers get your wooden spoons ready, pop on your LFA apron and get your creative juices flowing!

Key Dates:

2nd-6th June: Bake Off week

At 10am on 2nd June the LFA will announce the names of this years building to all registered entrants.

Entrants will then have 5 days (until 9am on Monday 7th June) to bake one of the chosen buildings, document their creation through videos and photos and submit these for judging via the LFA website.

7th June  – Final Deadline

Final Deadline for submission of video and photos documenting your baking and final creation (although we suggest you submit over the weekend)

17th June – Judging

Sadly the judges will not be able to taste your creations, so points will be for awarded appearance, daring, structural integrity and creativity.

As they can’t taste your cake they’ll rely on the creativity and imagination of your videos to show the cake tasting. Try to make your photos and videos fun as they’ll be shared online.  We suggest you also submit videos of yourself and your family tasting your cakes for the judges to consider!

This year’s judges:

  • Clare Edwards, National Training and Sales Support Manager for Smeg
  • Maria De La Iglesia, Assistant Manager for Smeg’s London Store
  • Martyn Evans, Creative Director at U+I
  • Dipa Joshi, Mayor’s Design Advocate, Partner at Fletcher Priest and LFA Curation Panel Member
  • Eliza Grosvenor, programme coordinator at LFA

18th – 23rd June Public Vote

An exhibition of all the cakes will be displayed on the LFA website after baking. The shortlisted bakes will be then announced on 18th, where the public can choose their favourite bake to be the winner of the Architecture Bake Off 2021. Voting will close on June 23rd.

24th  June  – Results and Winners

The winner of the LFA 2021 Architecture Bake Off will be announced during a special zoom call at 5pm on June 24th, along with the special prizes. A recording of the announcement will also be posted on the LFA website after.

The Architecture Bake Off 2021 is sponsored by Smeg.
