Belonging needs Modern Housing
A talk about the modern housing of London and Europe designed in the 1920s and 1930s
Thursday 11th June
18.00 - 19.00
Free
An overview of modern housing built in London and Europe by socialist and progressives councils from 1919 - 1930. This housing was well-designed, good quality and supported with services and facilities.
Catherine Bauer in her book 'Modern Housing' estimated that around six million homes were constructed. Much of this housing is still extant and lived in.
People need secure housing to have any sense of belonging and of community. And if low cost, good quality housing could be built in the 1920s, why can't it be done today?
The talk will cover London, Amsterdam, Paris, Vienna and the Weimar Republic.
